On May 4, 2014, at the Marriott Downtown, Hebrew Health Care’s Board of Trustees, the Celebrate Life Tribute Committee, and 400 of Hebrew Health Care’s closest friends celebrated life and raised funds to support a powerful cause. Hebrew Health Care recognizes the support from the following event sponsors: TD Bank, Visionary Sponsor; NBC Connecticut, Lead Sponsor; The Rosenberg Family & Morrison Senior Living, Featured Speaker Sponsors; Hartford HealthCare, Reception Sponsor; Lea and Richard Rubenstein, Book Sponsor; The Gelles Family, Dessert Sponsor; Hoffman Auto Group, Video Sponsor; Lite 100.5 FM WRCH, Radio Partner; and Integrity Graphics, Official Print Sponsor.
The guest speaker for the evening was world-renowned photographer Platon. He guided the audience through a journey of raw emotion through compelling photos he has taken throughout his career. Platon began with Lola, a homeless woman from Russia, who taught the audience that even those who have nothing, wish only the best for everyone else, and ended his speech with Dustin Hoffman, a man who took time from his busy life to make Platon’s mother smile.
During the cocktail reception, the Auxiliary of Hebrew Health Care raised money in support of A Fresh Canvas: An Alzheimer’s Arts Program. Anyone who made a donation was entered into a drawing to win a photograph of an Alexander McQueen shoe that was taken by Platon. The drawing raised $15,000.00 in support of A Fresh Canvas: An Alzheimer’s Arts Program.
A total of $185,000.00 net was raised from the event which provides support for Hebrew Health Care programs and services, many of which are not fully reimbursable; including our Dementia Care Services and A Fresh Canvas: An Alzheimer’s Arts Program. A Fresh Canvas provides art-based therapy classes to clients with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. Residents who participate in the art program seem to recognize other group members and facilitators, transcending memory loss by connecting on a deeper level. Hebrew Health Care depends entirely on philanthropy to support these programs since they do not receive funding through reimbursement.
