why hospice?
Hospice is a concept rooted in the centuries-old idea of offering "hospitality" to weary and sick travelers on a long journey. Dame Cicely Saunders at St. Christopher's Hospice in London first applied the term "hospice" to specialized care for dying patients. Hospice is a philosophy of care with a viewpoint that accepts death as the final stage of life; it affirms life and does not hasten death. The goal of hospice is to provide compassionate care for people in the last phases of incurable disease so that their last days may be spent with dignity and quality, treating the person not the disease focusing on quality, not length, of life. HHC is happy to provide this much needed care for as many as we're called upon to serve.
